BIBLE:

Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1

This week, we learned about God’s covenant with Noah called the Noahic Covenant. We learned all the details of the flood and how the ark was a picture of salvation through Jesus Christ. We had a great discussion this week that expanded beyond the study. I love how consistent Bible time opens the door for bigger and deeper conversations. The kids were also inspired to make their own ark with magnetic tiles afterward.

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations collection here.

HISTORY:

Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast  —  Chronological episode guide here
Activity: Roman Coins option 1Roman Coins option 2Roman Ice Cube Arch

We learned about the Romans with SOTW and did two fun activities! First, we made a Roman arch with ice cubes. This activity taught the kids the importance of a keystone (the middle stone) that holds the arch in place through force. We also made Roman coins with air dry clay. I modified the activities tagged above by using air dry clay, gold paint, and hot glue to get the designs raised. The kids made their designs with a toothpick, and once it was dry, I went over it with hot glue. Then, we painted the coins. While doing their activities, I was playing the Real Cool History for Kids episode about Romans.

SCIENCE:

Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) |  CC Connected Sandbox File | Kim Vieley Science Cards
Activity: LWF Worm Science Experiment

This week, we learned about invertebrates. We loved the Learning with Friends science experiment. We dug for worms in our front yard and then we did several tests to see how they responded to touch, smell, and light. The kids were very entertained and engaged with this lesson. The smell test was the most interesting!

GEOGRAPHY:

Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Drawing Africa | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Make a recipe from the region (Crockpot Recipes)

This week, we learned about the Egyptian Empire. We sang the memory work to “It’s a Small World” tune and did daily map tracing. We made Egyptian beef and potato stew for dinner as well. Really enjoying our geography dinners!

    TUTOR PLANS:

Here is my tutor board for week 5.

      YOUTUBE PLAYLIST:

      Week 5 Playlist

I created my first YouTube channel to record all the songs and hand motions I want to use with the kids. I've compiled each subject's songs into a weekly playlist. I create this primarily to help the parents in my class review the motions with their kids at home. This is a great resource for other tutors to use to build their plans for the week.
