In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 20: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.
BIBLE:
Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1 | Free Sample
For Week 20 of our Bible study, we learned about the Jewish feasts. Our study covers the seven appointed feasts of God found in Leviticus 23. It also discusses three additional Jewish feasts that are celebrated today and explains their history. This is one of my favorite parts of the study because it is so fascinating to see how Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection fulfill the feasts. We are also working through our Easter study, and it has been pairing perfectly with our discussion on the feasts.

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.
HISTORY:
Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast — Chronological episode guide here,
Activity: Mexican Revolution Documentary, make Huichol art, download my Huichol art templates, Write in these narration journals
We learned about the Mexican Revolution this week. We read from Story of the World, Vol. 4, and the kids colored the Coat of Arms of Mexico while listening (downloaded from Scribbler's file). We also created a Huichol yarn painting. Later, we watched a 15-minute video about the Mexican Revolution, which I've linked above.

SCIENCE:
Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) | CC Connected Sandbox File | Trifold Printouts
Activity: Coloring worksheet, Layers of the Atmosphere Video
For science, we learned about the different layers of the atmosphere. I love how my kids remembered studying this topic back in Week 1 of our Bible study! To help them understand what makes each layer unique, I created a coloring sheet for them to color. We also made a flipbook craft to visualize the different layers.

GEOGRAPHY:
Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily. Split Pea Soup, or Make Week 20 Crockpot Recipe

LIBRARY BOOKS:
I was sick this week (again) and didn’t make it to the library to pick up our books. These are the ones I selected, but please know that I have NOT read all of them yet. The books marked with a ★ are ones I have read and enjoyed! I’ll update the blog with my final choices after I read them this week.
- Breaking the Ice by Angie Bullaro (Geography - True story based in Quebec)
- Cactus Soup by Eric Kimmel (History - more cultural since it's related to Mexican culture rather than the Mexican Revolution)
- Canada: A Benjamin Blog and His Inquisitive Dog Guide by Anita Ganeri (Geography)
- Hey Canada! by Vivien Bowers (Geography)
- Look at the Weather by Britta Teckentrup (Science)
- Out of the Woods: A True Story of an Unforgettable Event by Rebecca Bond (Geography - this story takes place in Canada. I have read this book before and enjoyed it!)
- Puff: All About Air by Emily Kate Moon (Science)
- The Fall Feasts: And How Jesus Fulfills Them by Jessica AcMoody (Bible) — Read and love this book!
- The Feast of Weeks: When the Holy Spirit Came by Jessica AcMoody (Bible) — Read and love this book!
