Classical Conversations Cycle 1: Week 24 Recap

Classical Conversations Cycle 1: Week 24 Recap

In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 24: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.

BIBLE:

Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1  | Free Sample

For our last week of Bible study, we learned about the 7 elements inside the Tabernacle. More importantly, we spent time learning how these elements pointed to Jesus Christ. If you did this study, I hope it blessed you and deepened your understanding of God’s Word!

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.

HISTORY:

Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast  —  Chronological episode guide here,
Activity: Make Masks (Sandbox craft), Write in these narration journals

For history, we learned about the Portuguese Empire. We read selections from Story of the World and created the suggested mask craft from the sandbox activity. This craft related to a festival celebrated in Brazil, where King John VI fled. I also used our timeline cards to review additional details.

SCIENCE:

Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) |  CC Connected Sandbox File | Trifold Printouts
Activity: Identify marks on a globe

In our final week of science, we learned about the different markings on a globe. We sang our memory work to the tune of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” and practiced the hand motions. Then, we looked at the different markings on a globe and traced the corresponding worksheet from the Sandbox file.

GEOGRAPHY:

Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Cod fish dinner, or Make Week 24 Crockpot Recipe

This week, we learned about the North Atlantic, focusing on Greenland and Iceland. We made an Atlantic cod fish dinner and sang our memory work to the tune of “This Land Is Your Land.” My kids trace the map locations on the black line master maps. They also help me trace my class samples, which is great for extra review.

LIBRARY BOOKS:

Here are the library books we enjoyed for this week's memory work.

  • President Lincoln: from the log cabin to White House by Demi (Timeline)
  • Marvelous maps: the world as you have never seen it before by Simon Kuestenmacher (Science)
  • North and South: A tale of two hemispheres by Sanda Morris (Science)
  • Napoleon vs. the Bunnies by Jennifer Fox (History)

TUTOR PLANS:

How to Make a Tutor Board  | Week 24 Tutor Plans | Blank Tutor Template

Here is my tutor board for week 24.

        YOUTUBE PLAYLIST:

        Week 24 Playlist

Here is a weekly playlist of all the songs and hand motions I use with my kids. This is a great resource for other tutors to use to build their plans for the week.
