In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 22: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.
BIBLE:
Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1 | Free Sample
For week 22, we learned about the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was God's dwelling place among the Israelites. We learned about the encampment and how the tribes had designated areas to camp around the Tabernacle. In week 24, we will be learning about each of the holy elements inside the Tabernacle.

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.
HISTORY:
Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast — Chronological episode guide here,
Activity: Paint maple leaf, Maple Leaf String Art, Write in these narration journals
For history, we learned about the British North America Act. We read from Story of the World, watched a video about Canada, and the kids painted a maple leaf. We also completed our narration journals, and the kids copied the memory work.

SCIENCE:
Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) | CC Connected Sandbox File | Trifold Printouts
Activity: Learning with Friends Thermometer, Video about Weather Fronts
In Week 23 science, we learned about the different kinds of weather fronts. We enjoyed the Learning with Friends hands-on activity, which helped the kids visualize how warm air rises and cold air sinks because it is more dense. The water stayed separated, clearly showing the blue water on top and the red water on the bottom. We also watched a video that explains the different weather fronts (linked above).

GEOGRAPHY:
Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Peruvian Pollo Stew, or Make Week 22 Crockpot Recipe
This week and next week, we are memorizing the countries in South America. We’re singing the memory work to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus. We enjoyed a Peruvian pollo stew and quinoa rice. The kids also helped me label maps for my class, which gave them lots of practice identifying the locations.
LIBRARY BOOKS:
Here are the library books we enjoyed for this week's memory work.
Geography:
- Chile by Kristine Spanier (Geography)
- My name is Gabriela: the life of Gabriela Mistral by Monica Brown (Geography) —Based on a true story of the first Nobel Prize-winning Latina woman in the world, who was from Chile.

- The wrestling Cholitas of Bolivia by Claudia Bellante (Geography) — based on a true story of wrestling cholitas (women in dresses) in Bolivia. This is a staged or theatrical type of fighting that is popular in Bolivia.

Hands-on Science:

- Rocks and Minerals by Hill McDonald (Hands-on Science)
- Rocks, Fossils, Minerals, and Gems by Claudia Martin (Hands-on Science)
Fine Arts:
-
Play, Mozart, play! by Peter Sis (Fine Arts)
TUTOR PLANS:
How to Make a Tutor Board | Week 22 Tutor Plans | Blank Tutor Template
Here is my tutor board for week 22. We used the same worksheet we did for week 21 hands-on science. You can find that in the tutor plans again.
Note: I am not sure if we all (nationwide) have the same minerals in our tutor kits. Therefore, I created a blank mineral sheet version in case you have different ones to test. Having the images on the sheet was very helpful. My class loved trying to match the mineral I was showing them with the one on their sheet. I provided a variety of worksheet options, so just scroll through the PDF and choose which one works for you :)

YOUTUBE PLAYLIST:
Here is a weekly playlist of all the songs and hand motions I use with my kids. This is a great resource for other tutors to use to build their plans for the week.

PREVIEW FOR WEEK 23
Cloud Finder Link: Cut out and tape the cloud finder to a popsicle stick for kids to hold and walk around. Print on thick paper. It stands up better if you keep the square intact and don't cut all the way through the side.
