In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 23: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.
BIBLE:
Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1 | Free Sample
For Week 23, we learned about the five main sacrifices in the Tabernacle. This was a great lesson to help us understand the different requirements and purposes of the burnt, grain, fellowship, sin, and guilt offerings. I really enjoyed studying it!

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.
HISTORY:
Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast — Chronological episode guide here,
Activity: Make Ojo de Dios (Sandbox craft), Write in these narration journals
For history, we learned about the liberation of South America. We made the Ojo de Dios craft recommended in the Sandbox file. It was simple, and the kids really enjoyed learning how to make it. We also wrote in our narration journals to summarize what they learned this week.

SCIENCE:
Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) | CC Connected Sandbox File | Trifold Printouts
Activity: Learning with Friends Cloud, Identify Clouds in the Sky, Cotton Ball Clouds on construction paper
Cloud Finder Link: Cut out and tape the cloud finder to a popsicle stick for kids to hold and walk around. Print on thick paper. It stands up better if you keep the square intact and don't cut all the way through the side.
In week 23 science, we learned about the different types of clouds. There are so many fun activities you can do with this topic! We made a cloud using the LWF science experiment and spent the week identifying clouds in the sky. In previous years, we even created different types of clouds using cotton balls on construction paper. There are so many great options!

GEOGRAPHY:
Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Aaçaí bowls, or Make Week 23 Crockpot Recipe
We finished learning about South America this week. We enjoyed açaí bowls as a treat for completing Faces of History and becoming subject masters. The açaí berry is native to Brazil, so it was the perfect treat to enjoy this week!

ESSENTIALS:
We did it! We finished our very first year of Essentials and completed the big Faces of History project. I can’t even express how much I enjoyed this program. I went in with the mindset of learning the process and being a student myself, and it has been such a great experience. We paced ourselves well for this project, and it was truly enjoyable. I’ve been asked to share my lessons learned as a first-year Essentials mom, so I think I’ll take some time this summer to do that and hopefully help anyone joining in the fall. 😊
Our community presented our papers to our class during Week 23. We also held our first living wax museum, where we invited friends and family to come after lunch and spend the first hour of our Essentials class walking through the room, asking each child questions about who they were portraying. The kids were thrilled to share everything they learned this year. It was such a joy to watch my son confidently tell people all about King David. He left that day feeling so proud of everything he accomplished this year!
