Reflecting on Christmas Bible Verses: Finding Stillness in the Season
Every year, as soon as the calendar flips to December, I find myself caught between two worlds.
The joyful bustle and all that comes with it… the baking, the lights, the seasonal music that fills our home from morning till night, and if you’re anything like me, it starts well before Thanksgiving. And then there’s a quiet sort of ache. A deep longing for something more meaningful than a beautifully decorated season with Amazon packages as far as the eye can see. What I’m really longing for is something that lasts longer than the cookies and wrapping paper and the giant flocked pine tree that fills my living room window.
If I’m being truly honest, I often get so swept up in trying to make Christmas meaningful that I forget to set an example for my children of where the true meaning actually comes from in the first place.
One of the most powerful ways I’ve found to stay grounded in the true meaning of Christmas is by spending a little intentional time in God’s Word. When I keep coming back to read and reread those Christmas Bible verses year after year, they slow me down, reorient my heart, and remind me that my kids don’t need my perfection when it comes to celebrating Christmas; they need my presence, and they need to know how meaningful this season is because of who Jesus is.
One night in December, after my kids went to bed, I couldn’t sleep. So I sat by my gently lit Christmas tree with my Bible open. I read from Luke chapter 2. The house was still and peaceful. The glow of the Christmas lights danced across the pages, and I read those familiar words once again…

It stopped me in my tracks. Good news. Great joy. For all people.
I don’t know about you, but the world feels like a scary place without a lot of good news floating around. Every year, I get older, and that seems to be increasingly true. But this Scripture was telling me that the entrance of Christ into the world would bring good news of GREAT joy, not just for them… but for me as well.
I really needed that reminder that the good news of Jesus isn’t something I have to fake or pull together through crafts or perfect traditions. I don’t have to worry about the newest, latest, and greatest toys and trinkets, or what kind of “core memory” I’ll build for my kids this season. The core they need has already been given to them. The greatest gift they could ever know… that our Savior has already come.
There’s so much beauty in returning to Christmas Bible verses every year. They help us remember what’s unchanging in a season that can feel overwhelming and full of, well, stuff.
This year, find me reading through a few of the studies from our Christmas collection. It’s such a gift to walk through Scripture with my family. Every time we open the study, I find myself grateful for the memory that this will leave all seven of my children. Each study is rooted in the story of Jesus’ birth and in the promises and prophecies that lead us right to the manger. They’re written for busy families like ours who crave a meaningful way to celebrate without adding to the noise (yes, seven is NOISY).
Sometimes, we read a short passage together and discuss what we notice. Others, we color, worship, or pray, gathering around the story that changed everything.
And every time, I’m reminded that these moments — these small and seemingly ordinary pauses — are the ones that shape their hearts the most. I hope these will be treasured core memories as they grow and someday build their own traditions in future generations.
If you’ve been feeling the weight of “doing Christmas right” or wondering how to center your family on Jesus this year, I’d love to invite you to explore our Christmas collection. You’ll find studies that guide you through meaningful Christmas Bible verses, designed to help your family reconnect with the gospel story in a way that feels simple, real, and rooted in truth.
At the end of the day, Christmas will be good when we remind ourselves of the good God who gave it all for us… His only son.
So, pour the cocoa, light the tree, and gather together with your Bible open to reread the story. This year, let the story of Christ settle deep in your heart. And may these Christmas Bible studies — and the words of Scripture itself — fill your home with peace, hope, and the quiet joy of knowing that Christ has come.
