Which Foundations of the Bible volume should you start with?
If you've been feeling a pull to make Scripture reading a regular part of your homeschool day, I want to help you figure out where to begin.
Foundations of the Bible was written so that any family, no matter their age range or how much Bible knowledge they already have, can use these studies. But since there are three volumes, I get asked all the time which one to start with. Obviously working from Volume 1 through 3 makes sense, but sometimes families want to pick up in a different section, and that's perfectly fine.

Want to Study the Old Testament?
If you want your family to start at the beginning, walking through Creation, the patriarchs, the exodus, and the judges and kings, Foundations of the Bible Vol. 1 or Vol. 2 is where you'll want to begin. Volume 1 covers Creation to Moses, and Volume 2 picks up with Judges and carries through to Jesus.
Want to Study the Gospels?
If your family is drawn to the Gospels, Acts, and the story of the early church, Foundations of the Bible Vol. 3 walks through the Gospels to Revelation and takes a deeper dive into who Jesus is and what He has done for us. It also give an overview for all 66 books of the Bible.
Each volume is a 24-week study, and the curriculum works for children as young as five all the way through high school, so your whole family can learn together no matter how many kids you have or what ages they are. That means one study, one time at the table, and everyone growing in the same truths together.
Why I Created This Curriculum
If you are new here, I thought you might like to hear why I created this curriculum in the first place.
Five years ago, I received a piece of paper at our co-op that had these wonderful Bible facts for kids to memorize, many I had never learned before. I remember thinking, “Wow, I’d love to teach these to my children (and learn them myself!)” But then I quickly realized I didn't know where these stories were found in Scripture, and the task of figuring it out felt daunting. So I tucked that piece of paper away for two years.
Then one day, the Lord prompted me to pull that piece of paper back out and see if I could make a study for it. I was tasked with finding the related Bible passages and summarizing them in a way that captured the depth and magnitude of the stories but in a bite-sized way kids could understand and remember.
In only four short months, the first book was created (Vol 2: Judges to Jesus). I honestly have no logical way to explain how it was written and designed in such a short time while raising three kids ages 6 and under, other than it being the Lord's prompting, leading, and equipping.
I look back on that season, and the three years that followed as I wrote more volumes and continued expanding the curriculum, and think, “Wow, Lord… this is all from You!”
Since then, thousands of families (including my own) have grown in their knowledge of Scripture and their love for God's Word by using these studies. My life and faith have been transformed, and I pray the same will be true for your family.
