BIBLE:
Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1 | Free Sample
This week, we reached one of my favorite lessons in the study! We are learning about the sons of Jacob and their twelve tribes. We focused on Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, and Naphtali. We studied Jacob’s (Israel’s) prophecy for his twelve sons and how it played out in their lives and tribes. We also sang the memory work to the tune of 'How Firm a Foundation.’
Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations collection here.
HISTORY:
Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast — Chronological episode guide here
Activity: Color scribblers page, make Open Sesame biscuits from SOTW Activity Book (it's basically a simple biscuit recipe with sesame seeds added in)
This week, we learned about the Muslim Empire. We read Story of the World and made 'Open Sesame' biscuits from the SOTW activity book. The kids colored the Scribblers page while I read. You could watch Aladdin and the Forty Thieves to connect the open sesame biscuits.
SCIENCE:
Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) | CC Connected Sandbox File | Kim Vieley Science Cards | Trifold Print outs
Activity: Spinach photosynthesis project with LWF
We reviewed the different plant systems this week. Our experiment from Learning with Friends helped demonstrate the process of photosynthesis to the kids. I struggled to get my spinach cut outs to sink, so I am not sure if I saw the full effect of the experiment. However, when I looked at them with a magnifying glass in the sun, I did see bubbles coming off the leaves.
GEOGRAPHY:
Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Drawing Africa | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Make Syrian stew from Crockpot Recipes, Make Baklava
This week, we learned about the Muslim Empire. We made a Syrian stew for dinner one night. The trifold maps are a great resource for finding locations more easily. We also sang the memory work to the tune of 'The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock.’

TUTOR PLANS:

Here is my tutor board for the week.

Hands-On Science:
Use the cut-outs from the e-zine file with images of living things. Cut them out ahead of time and organize them into separate bags. Draw the "Classifications of Living Things" on a poster board, as shown in the e-zine. Have the kids take turns gluing the images onto the board. I handed out all the Plantae images first, so each child had one to glue, then moved on to the next group. If time allows, I have a drawing worksheet where the kids can reference the poster images. Review Game:
I’ve created a holiday-themed version of the stew game. All the ingredients are placed in the center, and I pass around a sticky hand. After answering a question, the child gets a turn slapping the sticky hand onto the ingredients to pick something to decorate the gingerbread house. The kids love this game! I even added a few "reindeer poop" ingredients for some extra fun.

YOUTUBE PLAYLIST:
I created my first YouTube channel to record all the songs and hand motions I want to use with the kids. I've compiled each subject's songs into a weekly playlist. I create this primarily to help the parents in my class review the motions with their kids at home. This is a great resource for other tutors to use to build their plans for the week.
PREVIEW:
No preview this week because I will be planning our next 6 weeks (Weeks 13-18) during our Thanksgiving & Christmas break. I'll also be working on gathering song ideas and hand motions for weeks 13-24 for YouTube. We go back on January 9th, so my Week 13 recap should be available by January 13th.
Hope you have a great week!
