Classical Conversations Cycle 1: Week 14 Recap

Classical Conversations Cycle 1: Week 14 Recap

In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 14: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.

BIBLE:

Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1  | Free Sample

This week, we studied the life of Joseph—from being sold into slavery by his brothers to God’s provision through trials, his rise to power in Egypt, and how he ultimately saved his family during the famine. Joseph’s story is a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness in every season!

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.

HISTORY:

Resources: Story of the World Book Cycle 1 (Match Up List) | Story of the World Series | Real Cool History for Kids Podcast  —  Chronological episode guide here
Activity: Color scribblers page, paint golden rocks, play gold & salt trade game from  SOTW vol 2 Activity Book

This week, we explored trade in Africa between Ghana and Mali. The kids loved a hands-on trade game from the Story of the World Activity Book, where they experienced the impact of taxes while traveling through Ghana. They even painted rocks gold to use as currency—such a fun and educational activity!

Tip: If you want to play the trade game but don't have time to make golden rocks, you could simply use yellow Legos or any object to count as "gold" and cotton balls for salt. You can get creative if you don't want to make a craft.

SCIENCE:

Resources: Learning with Friends Year 1 Bundle (code GRACEFRIENDS for 10% off) |  CC Connected Sandbox File | Trifold Printouts
Activity: Make 3 different types of rock with starburst candy. Activity is from Learning With Friends Earth Science unit. I used YumEarth Organic Chews.

This week, we sang our memory work to the tune of "We Will Rock You," which was perfect for learning about rocks! Our fun, hands-on activity from Learning with Friends had us create sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks using starburst-like candy to demonstrate how pressure and heat can form different types of rocks.

GEOGRAPHY:

Resources: Trace black line maps from CC sandbox | Drawing Africa | Keppel Trifold Maps on CC Connected
Activity: Trace maps daily, Make Week 14 Crockpot Recipe, or make Moroccan Chicken with Couscous

We learned about Ancient Africa, which helped the kids visualize the locations of Ancient Ghana and Ancient Mali. We sang the memory work to "Are You Sleeping" and made Moroccan Chicken with couscous since the cities of Fez and Tangier are in Morocco.

MONTHLY TEA TIME:

Resource: Tea Time Together Ancient History Unit
Recipe: Baklava

Each month, I host a tea time party with a small group of friends to learn about ancient history. We each make a dish from that culture. This has been a simple yet intentional way to fellowship together. It’s definitely been a favorite addition to our school year! We are using Tea Time Together’s ancient history units for our study.

ESSENTIALS:

Resource: Faces of History Packet by username jess.silva.e

We’re getting ready to write our very first Faces of History project! I wanted to share a great resource that another mom in our community found on CC Connected (by username jess.silva.e). It helps you plan your paper and provides weekly milestones. I’ve linked it above for you to download from CC Connected.
