In this recap, I am going to share what we did at home for more hands-on learning related to Classical Conversations Cycle 1 Week 19: Bible, History, Geography, and Science memory work. I will also share my tutor plans and library books.
BIBLE:
Resources: Foundations of the Bible vol. 1 | Free Sample
This week, we learned about God's covenant with Moses. We read Deuteronomy 28 to specifically study the blessings and curses that would come upon Israel based on their obedience or disobedience to God. We also explored their calling to be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation, as described in Exodus, and examined how 1 Peter 2 gives this same declaration to believers.
Exodus 19:5-6, ESV
"Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.
1 Peter 2:9-10, ESV
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."

Note: This study pairs with each week of the CC optional Bible memory work, but you can go at your own pace because there is SO much to learn. You can also jump in at any time. Anyone can do this study, not just CC families. Learn more about the Foundations Collection here.

Activity: Write in these narration journals
For history, we learned about the Anasazi (ancient ancestors of the Pueblo people). I found articles and videos to help us learn more about them, which I'll link below. The Anasazi lived in adobe villages and created vases with geometric designs. The kids designed their own vases and recorded what they learned in their narration journals.

Activity: Blubber activity with Learning with Friends, Coloring Worksheets from Devoted to Littles
We are still learning about the ocean, and this week, we explored the different ocean zones. We used a free coloring worksheet from @devotedtolittles to help the kids identify each zone. We also did a hands-on experiment from Learning With Friends to understand how sea animals survive in cold water. We even got our water temperature to be about the same as the abyssalpelagic zone!

GEOGRAPHY:

Activity: Trace maps daily. Make Enchiladas or Make Week 18 Crockpot Recipe

LIBRARY BOOKS:
Here are some books that relate to this week’s memory work.
- A is for Oboe: The Orchestra's Alphabet by Lera Auerbach (Fine Arts)
- Arrow to the Sun: A Pueblo Indian Tale by Gerald McDermott (History) — This Pueblo Indian tale reflects their belief in the sun as a god. Use it as a conversation starter with your kids to identify the lies compared to the true gospel.

HANDS-ON SCIENCE AND FINE ARTS AT HOME:
Tutor plans with Coloring Sheets
Handel Water Music at 28:45 seconds
I was sick this week and couldn’t tutor my class, but my kids still wanted to do hands-on science and fine arts—so we did! We learned about different types of crystals and examined sugar, salt, and Epsom salt under our microscope. While I taught about crystals, they colored a crystal-themed coloring page.
This quarter, we are learning about the orchestra and various composers. We explored the different instrument families and listened to brief introductions of all three composers. I also found Handel's Water Music on YouTube so the kids could watch and identify the instruments being played. Fine arts is a subject you can easily continue teaching at home with your kids!
YOUTUBE PLAYLIST:
Here is a weekly playlist of all the songs and hand motions I use with my kids. This is a great resource for other tutors to use to build their plans for the week.
